Why paper is fundamental for watercolor
Watercolor is a technique that lives in the relationship between the pigment, the water, and the surface it is applied to. The wrong paper can render even the most beautiful color useless.
Our handmade watercolor paper is produced by hand according to the Fabriano method, with traditional molds and 100% cotton linters — the same raw material used in archival quality paper.
Whether you are learning or have been painting for years, the right paper allows you to work with more control and achieve results worth framing.

Frequently asked questions about watercolor paper
What is the composition of Tingiri watercolor paper?+
Tingiri paper is made of 100% cotton linters, the same raw material used for quality archival paper. It contains no wood cellulose and has a neutral pH with 2% calcium carbonate added, which ensures long-term preservation.
What is the difference between 150 g/m² and 350 g/m² weight?+
150 g/m² paper is excellent for exercises, sketches, and dry techniques. The 350 g/m² holds much more water, allows for more successive glazes without buckling, and performs like a true professional block. For wet-on-wet watercolor painting, 350 g/m² is the ideal choice.
What is the Fabriano method and why is it important?+
The Fabriano method is the ancient technique of handmade paper production using traditional molds, used in Fabriano (AN) since the Middle Ages. The cotton fibers are laid out evenly on fine screens, resulting in paper with a natural texture and the characteristic four deckle edges. It is the method that guarantees the highest surface quality for watercolor.
What does 'hand-trimmed deckle edges' mean?+
Deckle edges are the natural irregular margins that form during the handmade paper process. They are not machine-cut but hand-trimmed, preserving an authentic artisanal appearance. They are a sign of quality and are highly appreciated by artists who frame their work.
How should watercolor paper be stored correctly?+
Tingiri paper lasts a long time if stored away from direct sunlight, heat sources, overly humid environments, or variable temperatures. It is recommended to keep it in whole sheets or protective envelopes in a drawer or filing cabinet. Avoid contact with acidic surfaces.
